The body shape of the Longhorn or Giant bison looks very similar to the body of the modern bison, but the Giant bison is much bigger and more muscular.
Typical for the Giant bison are the very long horns, which they used for fight and defense against large predators.
All the known body measurements are gigantic. The shoulder height is 250cm and the horns measure from tip to tip 213cm. Definitely the Giant bison was the largest bovid, which ever lived.
The Giant bison is an ancestor of our recent American and European bison. It lived in almost the same habitat as the modern American bison, but preferred warmer areas. Therefore its population was probably especially high in California.
