The Cape lion is the largest Sub-Saharan predator. He resembles in many aspects also the North African lion subspecies, the Barbary lion.
Characteristic is the remarkable long, heavy and black mane, which has a brownish fringe around the face.
They hunted mainly on large ungulates like zebras, giraffes and buffaloes but also on larger antelopes.
Since the Cape lion died in Paris Zoo around 1860, he was never kept again in a zoo. Therefore our Lost Zoo is proud to keep since 155 years for the first time this rare and large lion again.
